Front Row Warriors es una banda alemana que recién comenzó a dar sus primeros pasos dentro de la escena musical con la publicación de su álbum debut: Wheel of Fortune, una mezcla de Classic Heavy Metal, Hard Rock & AOR que los han hecho acreedores a múltiples reconocimientos como Mejor álbum de Hard Rock, Mejor Canción y Mejor Cantante. El álbum comienza con “2022”, una introducción en la que se aprecia un sonido hard rock al estilo de la vieja escuela en la que Elkie Gee, su cantante, comienza a dar cátedra de su poderoso rango vocal.
“Chasing Shadows” se configuró como uno de los primeros sencillos promocionales de la banda y que los hizo acreedores al título de mejor canción. Con un estilo hard rock con algunos elementos melódicos, se observa a una Elkie Gee que aprovecha sus calidades vocales y juega con tonos medios y altos a lo largo de la canción. “Fantastic” continua con esta misma línea musical apostándole más hacia el lado del AOR en cuyas notas del teclado se puede observar este ambiente místico que nos describen en el arte visual de su álbum debut.
“Love Is Not A Game” es una balada rock en la que de fusionan las notas del teclado con la voz femenina de Front Row Warriors adquiriendo mayor intensidad a medida que avanza. Me agrada la manera en que Elkie Gee emplea tonos altos para generar ese punto álgido dentro de la canción y contrasta con tonos medios y bajos, una canción bien estructurada.
“Deadly Sins” es quizás una de mis canciones favoritas. Me encanta la introducción acústica y la forma en cómo la canción toma un sonido más agresivo y se mantiene así hasta su término. El estribillo bastante pegadizo al igual que la instrumentación de la canción, sin demeritar el gran trabajo de su vocalista.
“Damnation” plantea una especie de intermedio en la que el teclado adquiere protagonismo recreando una ambientación mística y en la que se perciben ciertos guiños a metal progresivo. Finaliza con la poderosa voz de Elkie Gee. Acto seguido, “Hell Invaders” tiene este característico sonido al NWOBHM bastante pegajoso que es un auténtico disfrute al oído. El estribillo es contundente y quizás te obligue a cantar con ellos al ritmo de la música.
“Wheel Of Fortune” es la canción homónima del álbum y tiene un inicio bastante agresivo al compás de la guitarra muy al estilo de la vieja escuela y a medida que avanza presenta ciertas transiciones que evocan a otros subgéneros como es el rock melódico y el power metal. Una canción que permite dar cuenta de las capacidades de la banda de forma individual y grupal.
“Hell Awaits” es otra balada rock que realiza acto de presencia en este álbum, me agrada esta fusión con elementos electrónicos que alimentan esta ambientación de misterio creada por la banda a lo largo del álbum. Las cualidades vocales de Elkie Gee no tiene punto de discusión.
El sonido del teclado y la batería nos introducen a “Dystopian Time” que cuenta con la participación de Todd Michael Hall (Riot V) en las voces. Me agrada el inicio con estilo heavy de la canción como una forma de mantener el interés en el oyente y después dar paso a la interpretación vocal, bien pensada y ejecutada por la banda siendo el elemento dominante hasta el final. Siguiendo esta misma línea temática continua “The Hunter” que destaca por un estilo más cercano al speed metal cuya participación de la guitarra es por demás impecable.
Este álbum finaliza con la balada “Wasted Time”, una canción que se aleja un poco de la propuesta presentada en canciones anteriores y en la que podemos escuchar la voz de Elkie Gee con mayor detenimiento y apreciar su fuerza interpretativa. Un cierre poco convencional para un álbum, pero me agradó la decisión tomada por la banda.
Front Row Warriors ha creado un álbum que en definitiva amarán los fanáticos del heavy metal de la vieja escuela y que probablemente sea un referente para las nuevas generaciones en la escena musical alemana. Las canciones tienen luz propia y cada una destaca por su originalidad y estilo, me encantan las transiciones orientadas hacia otros subgéneros sin perder su identidad musical. Elkie Gee tiene una voz impresionante y me gustaría seguir escuchando más sobre la banda en un futuro.

Front Row Warriors is a German band that just started to take their first steps into the music scene with the release of their debut album: Wheel of Fortune, a mix of Classic Heavy Metal, Hard Rock & AOR that has earned them multiple awards such as Best Hard Rock Album, Best Song and Best Singer. The album starts with "2022", an intro in which you can appreciate an old school hard rock sound in which Elkie Gee, its singer, begins to show off his powerful vocal range.
"Chasing Shadows" was one of the band's first promotional singles and earned them the title of best song. With a hard rock style with some melodic elements, Elkie Gee takes advantage of her vocal qualities and plays with medium and high tones throughout the song. "Fantastic" continues with this same musical line betting more towards the AOR side in whose keyboard notes you can observe this mystical atmosphere that they describe us in the visual art of their debut album.
"Love Is Not A Game" is a rock ballad in which the keyboard notes merge with the female voice of Front Row Warriors acquiring more intensity as it progresses. I like the way Elkie Gee employs high tones to generate that high point within the song and contrasts with mid and low tones, a well structured song.
"Deadly Sins" is perhaps one of my favorite songs. I love the acoustic intro and the way the song takes on a more aggressive sound and stays that way until the end. The chorus quite catchy as well as the instrumentation of the song, without detracting from the great work of their vocalist.
"Damnation" poses a kind of intermission in which the keyboard acquires prominence recreating a mystical atmosphere and in which certain nods to progressive metal are perceived. It ends with the powerful voice of Elkie Gee. Then, "Hell Invaders" has this characteristic NWOBHM sound, quite catchy and a real pleasure to listen to. The chorus is forceful and perhaps compels you to sing along with them to the beat.
"Wheel Of Fortune" is the eponymous song of the album and has a quite aggressive start to the rhythm of the guitar very old school style and as it progresses it presents certain transitions that evoke other subgenres such as melodic rock and power metal. A song that allows us to realize the band's capabilities both individually and as a group.
"Hell Awaits" is another rock ballad that makes an appearance on this album, I like this fusion with electronic elements that feed this atmosphere of mystery created by the band throughout the album. Elkie Gee's vocal qualities have no point of discussion.
The sound of the keyboard and drums introduce us to "Dystopian Time" which features Todd Michael Hall (Riot V) on vocals. I like the heavy style start of the song as a way to keep the listener's interest and then give way to the vocal performance, well thought out and executed by the band being the dominant element until the end. Following this same thematic line continues "The Hunter" which stands out for a style closer to speed metal whose guitar participation is impeccable.
This album ends with the ballad "Wasted Time", a song that moves away a little from the proposal presented in previous songs and in which we can listen to Elkie Gee's voice in greater detail and appreciate his interpretative strength. An unconventional closing for an album, but I was pleased with the decision taken by the band.
Front Row Warriors have created an album that will definitely be loved by fans of old school heavy metal and will probably be a reference for the new generations in the German music scene. The songs have a light of their own and each one stands out for its originality and style, I love the transitions oriented towards other subgenres without losing their musical identity. Elkie Gee has an impressive voice and I would like to keep hearing more about the band in the future.
