Captain Hawk – Ghost of the Sea es el álbum conceptual escrito por Elina Englezou e interpretada, arreglada, mezclada y producida por Bob Katsionis (ex-Firewind, Warrior Path, Stray Gods, Serious Black). Esta publicación se produce cuatro años después de su primer álbum conceptual Goditha – The Rock Opera. Al igual que su antecesor cuenta con la presencia de cantantes destacados de la escena en Grecia, además de un coro completo a 4 voces. Aquí te presentamos nuestra reseña:
Iniciamos con Northern Winds, primera canción del álbum que desde sus primeros acordes nos introduce en altamar, así como al característico mundo de los piratas. Yiannis Papanikolaou realiza una ejecución vocal impecable.
Into the Storm es una de las canciones que se presenta como sencillo promocional. Me agradan esos acentos folk propios de la cultura griega y como se incorporan bajo el concepto pirata. La instrumentación del álbum es poderosa y se complementa con la parte vocal.
En In The Captain's Quarters se cuenta con la participación de Yiannis Papanikolaou a dúo con Fany Melfi, creando un contraste de voces por demás interesante que le genera mayor dinamismo a la canción y genera está sensación de alegría
The Crone es una canción que juega más con los elementos orquestales y folk. Elina Englezou tomó una decisión acertada sobre la elección de cantantes para este álbum, en la que claramente puede apreciarse sus cualidades vocales sin opacar una a la otra.
Get the Pistol comienza de forma dramática con el sonido de los violines y contrasta con la ejecución de la guitarra a cargo de Bob Katsionis. La ejecución vocal gira en ese mismo tenor observándose al término de la canción en la que juegan con algunos elementos propios de la ópera.
En Ghost of the Sea puede apreciarse con mayor detenimiento la participación del The Fantasy Choir. La canción cuenta con diferentes transiciones musicales que son un agasajo al oído, además de que sus vocalistas juegan más con las notas agudas.
Father cuenta con una instrumentación más orientada al folk metal, aunque con cierta presencia de los elementos orquestales y corales como su antecesora. El cierre de la canción es espectacular.
Diamonds, Emeralds and Rubies nos acercan a la parte final del álbum en la que se da continuidad a esta expedición pirata. Se puede percibir la presencia del progresivo que contrasta bastante bien con la parte orquestal. Una constante en este álbum es que han sabido transmitir bien esta sensación de alegría propia de los piratas.
Daughters on the Ocean cuenta con la participación de Iliana Tsakiraki que en conjunto con The Fantasy Choir crean un ensamble coral maravilloso en la parte inicial. Indudablemente, la canción más épica del álbum.
Coming Home es la canción con la que finaliza este álbum comenzando con los acordes del piano y al que se une la orquesta sinfónica en la que se retoma está ambientación épica de sus primeras canciones.
Captain Hawk es un álbum que te atrapará desde las primeras canciones y que promete sumergirte en las profundidades del mar para acompañar a este conjunto de piratas en sus aventuras. Elina Englezou y Bob Katsionis han generado una dupla creativa interesante, un álbum bien estructurado y que en definitiva enaltece a la escena local en Grecia.
Si has tenido la oportunidad de escuchar Goditha, Captain Hawk es un álbum que no decepciona y que dejara una buena sensación en los oyentes.

Captain Hawk - Ghost of the Sea is the concept album written by Elina Englezou and performed, arranged, mixed and produced by Bob Katsionis (ex-Firewind, Warrior Path, Stray Gods, Serious Black). This release comes four years after their first concept album Goditha - The Rock Opera. Like its predecessor it features prominent singers from the scene in Greece, plus a full 4-voice choir. Here is our review:
We start with Northern Winds, the first song of the album that from its first chords introduces us to the high seas, as well as to the characteristic world of pirates. Yiannis Papanikolaou performs an impeccable vocal performance.
Into the Storm is one of the songs presented as a promotional single. I like those folk accents typical of Greek culture and how they are incorporated under the pirate concept. The album's instrumentation is powerful and complemented by the vocals.
In The Captain's Quarters features Yiannis Papanikolaou in a duet with Fany Melfi, creating an interesting contrast of voices that generates more dynamism to the song and generates a sense of joy.
The Crone is a song that plays more with orchestral and folk elements. Elina Englezou made a wise decision about the choice of singers for this album, in which you can clearly appreciate their vocal qualities without overshadowing each other.
Get the Pistol begins dramatically with the sound of the violins and contrasts with Bob Katsionis' guitar playing. The vocal performance turns in the same tenor, which is observed at the end of the song in which they play with some operatic elements.
In Ghost of the Sea, the participation of The Fantasy Choir can be appreciated in greater detail. The song has different musical transitions that are a treat to the ear, in addition to the fact that the vocalists play more with the high notes.
Father has an instrumentation more oriented to folk metal, although with a certain presence of orchestral and choral elements as its predecessor. The closing of the song is spectacular.
Diamonds, Emeralds and Rubies brings us closer to the final part of the album in which the pirate expedition continues. We can perceive the presence of the progressive that contrasts quite well with the orchestral part. A constant in this album is that they have known how to transmit well this feeling of joy typical of pirates.
Daughters on the Ocean counts with the participation of Iliana Tsakiraki who together with The Fantasy Choir create a wonderful choral ensemble in the opening part. Undoubtedly, the most epic song of the album.
Coming Home is the song with which this album ends, starting with the piano chords and joined by the symphonic orchestra in which the epic atmosphere of the first songs is retaken.
Captain Hawk is an album that will grab you from the first songs and that promises to immerse you in the depths of the sea to accompany this group of pirates in their adventures. Elina Englezou and Bob Katsionis have generated an interesting creative duo, a well-structured album that ultimately enhances the local scene in Greece.
If you have had the chance to listen to Goditha, Captain Hawk is an album that does not disappoint and will leave a good feeling in the listener.
