Sebia es una banda que recién comienza a abrirse camino dentro de la industria musical con Acceptance of Reality, su álbum debut. La banda combina el metal vintage con un sonido moderno, fusionando elementos de hard rock y progresivo, enriquecidos con líneas vocales y riffs melódicos influenciados por bandas como Metallica, Dream Theater, Nevermore, Kansas, Iron Maiden y System of a down. Los acordes de la guitarra y el bajo nos introducen a Lockdown. La banda nos presenta una propuesta musical que retoma la esencia del metal clásico con una orientación más moderna en la que combinan algunos elementos progresivos y melódicos. Me agradan las armonías vocales en la parte del estribillo, así como los cambios de sonido que se tornan un poco más agresivos casi al término de esta.
Get out of Your heads muestra un sonido más pesado a comparación de su antecesora y que me gustaría definitivamente en concierto. La canción busca retratar está toma de decisiones que se realizan más por impulsos emocionales que de forma racional. Leonidas Perifanis realiza un gran trabajo en las voces.
Shipwreck muestra un sonido más orientado hacia lo progresivo con algunos elementos ambientales que le añaden mayor profundidad a la canción. En un inicio, la canción pareciera tratarse de una balada, pero está va tomando fuerza a medida que avanza en la que su vocalista transmite esta sensación de enojo.
Los acordes progresivos que se crean gracias a la fusión entre la guitarra acústica y eléctrica plantean el inicio de Beyond This World. Me agrada el timbre vocal de Leonidas Perifanis y la melodía que se crean en conjunto con el aporte instrumental por parte de los demás integrantes de la banda. Es quizás la canción más cercana al metal progresivo que nos presenta este quinteto griego.
Voices constituyó una de las cartas de presentación de la banda que comienza con los acordes del bajo seguido de la batería y la guitarra. Una canción que a medida que avanza se torna cada vez más agresiva captando la atención del oyente. Una canción que nos relata esas voces internas cuestionando nuestra toma de decisiones. Gran canción para dar a conocer la propuesta musical de Sebia.
Algo que me está gustando de este álbum son los diferentes cambios de sonido que presenta a lo largo de sus canciones y Ship Lost Thorugh the Mist es el mejor ejemplo de ello. Comienza con el sonido de la guitarra al que se añade la batería agregando un toque de misticismo a esta canción, la primera parte de la canción es una balada cuyo tema principal gira alrededor de la pérdida en la que posteriormente adquiere un sonido más cercano al hard rock en la que su vocalista da cátedra de sus habilidades interpretativas. Sin duda, es una canción que engloba la propuesta musical de la banda.
Witch Hunt es quizás la canción más teatral de este quinteto griego. La participación de Konstantinos Kyritsis y Marios Theodorou en las guitarras es brillante pues generan esta ambientación sombría y mística sobre la que gira el álbum en términos conceptuales. Su vocalista realiza un gran trabajo al jugar con diferentes rangos vocales en su interpretación con el apoyo de Tania Leontiou (Universe 217) quien hace uso de la voz lírica. Es la canción más larga del álbum y es una auténtica sorpresa, pues se aleja del estilo hard rock/progresivo de canciones anteriores.
La canción homónima Acceptance of Reality culmina con este viaje musical en la que en términos líricos nos plantea aceptar la realidad en la que estamos inmersos. Con un estilo similar a las primeras canciones del álbum, es una canción que agrada bastante y crea un gran cierre para este álbum debut.
Este primer álbum de Sebia denota el ímpetu que tiene el quinteto griego en términos creativos pues crean una propuesta musical bastante interesante en la que recuperan la esencia del hard rock de la vieja escuela con algunos elementos progresivos creando una propuesta fresca y dinámica. Me interesaría seguir los pasos Sebia en el futuro para ver su evolución musical y como consolidan su identidad musical. Un álbum que merece la pena ser escuchado.

REVIEW: ACCEPTANCE OF REALITY (SEBIA)
Sebia is a band that is just beginning to make its way into the music industry with Acceptance of Reality, their debut album. The band combines vintage metal with a modern sound, fusing elements of hard rock and progressive, enriched with vocal lines and melodic riffs influenced by bands like Metallica, Dream Theater, Nevermore, Kansas, Iron Maiden and System of a down. Here is our review.
The guitar and bass chords introduce us to Lockdown. The band presents us with a musical proposal that retakes the essence of classic metal with a more modern orientation in which they combine some progressive and melodic elements. I like the vocal harmonies in the chorus, as well as the sound changes that become a little more aggressive almost at the end of the song.
Get out of Your heads shows a heavier sound compared to its predecessor and that I would definitely like in concert. The song seeks to portray this decision making that is made more by emotional impulses than rationally. Leonidas Perifanis does a great job on vocals.
Shipwreck shows a more progressive-oriented sound with some ambient elements that add more depth to the song. At the beginning, the song seems to be a ballad, but it gets stronger as it progresses with the vocalist conveying this angry feeling.
The progressive chords that are created thanks to the fusion between the acoustic and electric guitars start Beyond This World. I like the vocal timbre of Leonidas Perifanis and the melody that is created together with the instrumental contribution of the other members of the band. It is perhaps the closest song to progressive metal that this Greek quintet presents us.
Voices constituted one of the presentation cards of the band that begins with the chords of the bass followed by the drums and the guitar. A song that as it progresses becomes more and more aggressive, capturing the listener's attention. A song that tells us about those inner voices questioning our decision making. Great song to introduce Sebia's musical proposal.
Something I'm liking about this album are the different sound changes it presents along its songs and Ship Lost Thorugh the Mist is the best example of it. It begins with the sound of the guitar to which the drums are added adding a touch of mysticism to this song, the first part of the song is a ballad whose main theme revolves around the loss in which later acquires a sound closer to hard rock in which his vocalist gives a demonstration of his interpretive skills. Undoubtedly, it is a song that encompasses the musical proposal of the band.
Witch Hunt is perhaps the most theatrical song of this Greek quintet. The participation of Konstantinos Kyritsis and Marios Theodorou on guitars is brilliant as they generate this somber and mystical atmosphere on which the album revolves in conceptual terms. Their vocalist does a great job playing with different vocal ranges in his interpretation with the support of Tania Leontiou (Universe 217) who makes use of the lyrical voice. It is the longest song on the album and is a real surprise as it moves away from the hard rock/progressive style of previous songs.
The homonymous song Acceptance of Reality culminates with this musical journey in which in lyrical terms we are asked to accept the reality in which we are immersed. With a similar style to the first songs of the album, it is a song that pleases quite a lot and creates a great closure for this debut album.
This first album of Sebia denotes the momentum that the Greek quintet has in creative terms as they create a quite interesting musical proposal in which they recover the essence of old school hard rock with some progressive elements creating a fresh and dynamic proposal. I would be interested in following Sebia's steps in the future to see their musical evolution and how they consolidate their musical identity. An album worth listening to.
